About Manali

Manali, frequently called the Queen of the Hills, is situated in the Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh, at an altitude of about 2050 meters. How to reach Manali

Manali is a well-connected city and it stays so all year round. Either by road, train or flight, you can reach here. You can travel here in your own vehicle, or you can access it by public transport, depending on your choice.

How to reach Manali by Road

If you were traveling by your own car or motorcycle, let us see the journey. I will assume that you came from Delhi in order to explain the road. However, the road to Chandigarh will still be the same, even if you were coming from another town.

Delhi – Panipat – Karnal – Kurukshetra – Ambala – Chandigarh – Rupnagar – Bilaspur – Sundar Nagar – Mandi – Bhuntar – Naggar – Manali

The whole journey will take approximately 540 kilometres to 12-14 hours. It is highly recommended that you get to Delhi early so you can get to Manali before darkness.

How to reach Manali by Bus

The easiest task is perhaps to find a bus for Manali. Regular HRTC buses from all major cities nearby to Manali, both luxurious and ordinary, are operated. Also on the route are several private tours and travel companies running their own buses. Luxury buses from and to Manali are also provided by the HPTDC.

A Bus from ISBT can be found if you were from Delhi. Private companies will have different bus pick-up points to check when you book a seat.

How to reach Manali by Flight

The nearest airport is Bhuntar, approximately 50 kilometers from Manali. Regular flights from both Delhi and Chandigarh to Bhuntar are provided by Air India, IndiGo and SpiceJet. You can board a taxi to your Manali hotel from the airport once you arrive here. Besides Bhuntar, it takes up to 6 to 8 hours to travel from Chandigarh Airport to Manali to get to the closest airport. Flights operate from Chandigarh to other cities nearly every major airline.

How to reach Manali by Train

The closest railway will be the narrow gauge up to Jogindernagar if you wish to reach here by train. It has a narrow-gauge connexion with Pathankot, as is the famous Shimla Kalka toy train.

However, Chandigarh would be the main nearby railway station. You should book a Chandigarh ticket and drive to Manali by bus, taxi, or train to get there if you wish to travel by train.
