Ensuring employee safety is an integral part of every workplace. Meanwhile, reports and statistics suggest that working at heights has caused many injuries and accidents. Hence, the government, along with the state and district bodies, launched the concept of working at heights training, so people have to be trained before they are eligible for the job.

Importance of Working at Heights Training

  • Necessary training ensures that people are extra careful and follow advisory measures while working at heights. This reduces the risk of accidents possibly caused due to clumsy and cluttered workspaces at heights.
  • Workers are like customers and guests who occasionally do not know protection and safety measures at heights. Hence, training the employees is beneficial as they can protect themselves and others during times of crisis.
  • Such training and assessments have proven to psychologically decrease the fear of heights in individuals. Many people are scared of heights as they are afraid of falling. This paranoia and fear are eliminated with proper training, where individuals get practical experience and knowledge about heights. Besides, safety and preventive measures are explained adequately before sending people to extremes.
  • Providing working at heights training ensures that the company follows employees’ safety and protection guidelines. This increases employment and reduces employee turnover. A company that ensures the safety and welfare of its employees is well-reputed.

Who Should Receive Height Training?

Construction workers: People who work at construction sites are the most vulnerable to risk. Mining, painting, bricklaying, etc., involve workers who work at different heights per the building requirements. Moreover, workers usually hang through a rope while painting, and they are subject to many risks and dangers. So, they have to be motivated and encouraged while providing caution and preventive measures. Also, there are many cases of loose ropes and damaged lifts, and such problems must be fixed and eliminated as soon as possible to ensure the safety of the workers.

Theme park guides: Many water rides involve long rides from a height, and there are lifeguards at the start and end of the ride to ensure the customer’s safety. The guards receive exceptional training as to how to handle people at heights. As such, the security and protection of the customers and employees are provided with proper training.

Pilots and cabin crew: Flights are subject to different risks as they fly as high as 33000 feet above land. And during emergencies, the pilot tries to fly at lower heights so that people can open parachutes and jump. So, every flight attendant and pilot receives safety training during emergencies like water landing, swimming, and the usage of airbags. This is very important to ensure calmness in the plane among the passengers. And with the proper training, the cabin crew can guide and help the passengers.

Meanwhile, protection is not only for employees working at heights but also for the equipment present. Occasionally, a damaged machine breaks down and falls from a height, and this causes injury to people working down and damage to the machine. This default has to be fixed so that workers are far away from the machine placed at a height and also ensure that the machines and equipment at heights are maintained regularly and in good condition. How a company treats its employees speaks a lot about it. As such, following the safety and regulation act improves the company’s goodwill and ensures the employees’ safety. Hence, almost all construction and real estate companies train their workers and employees to handle the risk at heights.
