WHAT IS A DOT DRUG TEST?
A DOT Drug Test is an alcohol and drug evaluation test that is done by the Department of Transportation (DOT). The test is performed on a DOT-regulated employee that is called a safety-sensitive employee.
DOT DRUG TEST IS COMPULSORY FOR:
All those employees which are designated by the DOT authority to be “safety-sensitive employees” are required to have DOT Drug Test. These employees must clear the test in order to perform the job.
A safety-sensitive employee is an employee whose job impacts his own safety and also the safety of the public.
DOT DRUG TEST IS CONDUCTED FOR:
The DOT Alcohol and Drug test is conducted to examine the presence of the following substances in the body.
- Merijuana metabolites
- Cocaine metabolites
- Amphetamines
- Morphine, hydrocodone, hydromorphone, etc
- Phencyclidine (PCP)
INSTITUTIONS UNDER THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION (DOT):
Following are some of the institutions that come under the Department of Transportation (DOT).
- Federal Aviation Administration:
All the Aviation agencies and airlines come under the Department of Transportation. DOT Drug Test is required for all the employees on the following duties:
Aircraft pilots, air hostesses, flight attendants, security guards, etc
- Federal Rail Road Administration:
The Federal Institution of Railways acts under the DOT rules and regulations. It is compulsory for the following employees of the Railway Institution to conduct DOT Drug Test.
Train Drivers, engine workers, signal services operators, etc.
- Federal Transit Administration:
The Federal Institution of Transit work under DOT. Employees on the following duties must conduct their DOT Drug Test.
Drivers of all Light traveling vehicles and Heavy traveling vehicles, Signal operators, security officers, car mechanics, etc.
- Federal Motor Carrier Safety Operations:
This department is used to provide rules and regulations for the vehicles operating on national highways. Following members of the department are required to conduct their DOT Drug Test:
Driving License holders, all types of passenger carrying vehicle drivers, drivers of hazardous material containing vehicles, etc.
- Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration:
This institution is responsible for the enforcement of rules and regulations for the safe transportation of all the pipelines in the U.S. Following officers of the department must conduct their DOT Drug Test.
Emergency response workers, pipeline operators, maintenance workers, etc.
- CUSTODY AND CONTROL FORM (CCF):
The Custody and Control Form (CCF) is a form compulsory for ordering a drug test, the results of the test, and the MRO’s review for federally administrated authority.
It is a document that is divided into five parts. This form includes information about the donor, collector, type of the test to be conducted, laboratory information, MRO information, and some other test-related information.
- REVISED CUSTODY AND CONTROL FORM (CCF):
The Office of Management and Budget has approved a revised version of the federal DOT Drug test Custody and Control Form (CCF). The use of the new CCF form would imply after 31, August 2021.
Following are the changes made to it.
- A ‘CDL state and Number’ is added in the donor identification part.
- There is a field added for the donor email address.
- In the collector information part, a field of the email is included
- The instructions to fill out the form are removed from the back of the form.
- Analyte names and checkboxes are removed and checkboxes for results are repositioned.
