At the beginning, the name “big cat” described the four large wild cats includes tigers, lions, leopards, and jaguars. These belong to genus Panthera. Liger

The liger is a hybrid which is developed by breeding a male lion and female tiger. They are largely found in zoos. The hybrid liger is the largest big cat in the world weighing about 795lb, which is almost double the weight of either a lion or tiger. Ligers have an outstanding length of 11-12ft. They have a height of about 6ft. Ligers have the combined appearance of the tiger and the lion with stripes on the brown colored coat and ridge in males. The US has approximately 40 Ligers, which is the largest population in the world, China is at 2nd place after USA. Most countries and naturalists are against the crossbreeding of lions and tigers.

Siberian Tiger

The Siberian tiger is also known as Amur leopard cat. It is the second largest big cat. Siberian tiger weighing 700lb on average for males having a length of 3ft and height almost 3.2ft approximately. The Siberian tiger was the largest big cat before the introduction of the Liger. Siberian tigers have a reddish or yellowish rusty coat which is covered in black diagonal stripes. According to the IUCN due hunting and habitat destruction, the Siberian tiger are dangerous species. The Siberian tiger occupies the mountain region of Sikhote Alin. They are also found in China.

Bengal tiger

3rd largest member of the big cat family is the Bengal Tiger. The male Bengal Tiger has an average weight of 596lb. The dangerous Bengal Tiger skin is covered with different colors light orange having mixture of black or dark brown stripes in it. Males Tiger got an average height of approximately 3ft. The Bengal Solitary Tiger hunts for the large animals which includes, Chital, Sambar and Gaur. The Bengal tiger also hunts water buffalos, takin, livestock, and medium-sized prey such as the hog deer. It also included in the list of The World’s Largest Big Cats and endangered species.

Lion

The lion is the fourth largest big cat in the world with males weighing an average of 418lb with a length of about 4-5ft. The population of the lions has avoided regularly in the African range which convincing the IUCN to categorize the cat as a weak species. The Lion in India is considered endangered. Lions are predatory carnivores hunting from sunset to sunrise in groups. Wildebeest, zebras, buffalos, giraffes, deer, the wild boar, and the gemsbok compose mammalian diet of the lion. Lionesses within the pride are responsible for hunting. The males are responsible to guard their land.

Most of the world’s largest big cats are a target for hunters, which is making them endangered species. The big cat family may be killed during sports hunting, skin smuggling, and during animal-human conflicts. Other big and famous that also includes in the cat family are the jaguar, cougar, leopard, cheater, the snow leopard, and the Eurasian lynx.
