First National Security-The War against Terror
by Farhan Mazhar
Pakistan is facing terrorism since 9/11;
it has suffered and suffering still due to terrorist attacks on the different places in the country. Terrorists are attacks launching against it and targeting innocent peoples to create instability in the state.
Pakistan is fighting a war against terrorism since ten years but it could not be successful because it is a transnational threat. If a state has hostility with another state to damage it is easy. Otherwise, when the enemies are non-state actors and their networks are spread on large scale to eliminate them is difficult. After the attack on army public school, Peshawar government started Zarb e Azab operation against terrorists in North Waziristan with the determination of elimination of terrorism from the country. According to the US department report in June 2016, Pakistan remained a counter terrorism partner and this operation reduced terrorism from 45% to 50% in the country. It killed the terrorist and destroyed their network during this operation. It did not strictly manage its border security so it was the mistake of Pakistan.
Due to this big mistake, Pakistan again faced the storm of terrorist attacks. Currently, the attack on Lahore and on the shrine of Sufi saint Lal Shahbaz Qalandar in Sindh’s killed and injured many innocent people. After this recent wave of terrorism, it started operation of Radd-ul-Fasaad on 21 February 2017 against all extremists on a non-discriminatory basis across the country. It also sealed the border with Afghanistan.Terrorist using Afghanistan soil to train militants and launching an attack on Pakistan for many years. The leader of TTP Mullah Fazullah based in Afghanistan. Pakistan has said again and again to the Afghan government to arrest or hand over him but it did not do anything. The Donald trump is building war on Mexico border due to drug trafficking even they have not extreme terrorist threats like Pakistan. He has banned seven Muslims states for immigration even those states are the victim of terrorism themselves. Their people are seeking protectionism in other countries. Pakistan was well aware that terrorists were planning and launching the attack from Afghanistan but it took this decision so late after killing of hundreds of innocent people. Pakistan wants good relations with Afghanistan but it is the issue of national security. If it wants to secure its people and save it from terrorism then it has to manage permanent strict border security. Afghanistan should cooperate with it to target the leaders of terrorist groups to abolish terrorism. Pakistan also should not differentiate between good and bad terrorists because terrorists are killers and criminals they cannot be good. They are targeting innocent people in it. If Afghanistan does not cooperate with Pakistan to handing over terrorist leaders and it cannot build walls like America to secure its country, at least it can seal its border with Afghanistan permanently to eradicate terrorism from the country.
